Caring for Children, Teens, and the Families Who Love Them
At Harbor Christian Counseling, we believe that every person's story matters, including the youngest ones. Harbor Kids offers biblically informed, gospel-driven, and clinically skilled counseling that is specifically tailored for the unique needs of children, teens, and parents. We meet young people right where they are and walk alongside the whole family with compassion, insight, guidance, and hope.
Who Harbor Kids Is For?
Growing up is hard, and so is parenting through those formative years. You don’t have to figure it all out alone. Harbor Kids is here and ready to help:
Children ages 5 and up who are working through big feelings, challenging behaviors, difficult transitions, trauma, loss, and other hard stuff and need a safe, playful space to be heard.
Teens who are navigating anxiety, low mood, identity and self-worth, friendships, school pressure, or the question of who they are becoming.
Parents and families who want support for their child, tools for the hard moments at home, and a partner to help the whole family heal and grow together.
Though we are a Christian counseling practice, Harbor Kids welcomes children, teens, and families from all faith backgrounds, including those with no religious affiliation. We will meet you wherever you and your child are at and provide the very best care possible.
OUR APPROACH
Every child is unique. Harbor Kids utilizes a range of approaches, each grounded in clinical expertise and a biblically-informed view of the whole person, so that care fits your child’s age, personality, and needs. Some children express themselves best through play or creativity, others through conversation, and parents often benefit from support of their own. Explore the approaches below to see what each one looks like and which might be the best starting point for your family.
-
Play is the natural language of childhood. Children often cannot put their worries, fears, or hurts into words, but they can show us through play. In play therapy, a trained counselor uses toys, games, storytelling, and imaginative play to help a child express feelings, make sense of hard experiences, and practice new ways of coping, all in a safe and caring relationship. As children play, they learn to name what they feel, build confidence, and grow in their ability to handle life's challenges. Parents stay involved throughout, so that progress in the playroom carries over into home life.
-
Expressive therapy invites children and teens to explore what is going on inside through creative expression. Using art, music, movement, writing, or other creative activities, young people can express thoughts and emotions that are hard to say out loud. No artistic skill is needed. The creative process itself becomes a way to understand feelings, release stress, and discover strengths. Expressive therapy is especially helpful for children and teens who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to explain what they are experiencing.

Parenting is hard work, and no one is meant to do it alone. Parent coaching gives you a supportive, non-judgmental partner to help you understand your child's needs, respond to difficult moments with confidence, and build a home where your child can thrive. Together we will set goals, practice practical tools for communication, boundaries, and connection, and tailor strategies to your child and your family's values. Parent coaching can be offered alongside your child's counseling or on its own.
-
For children and teens who are ready to put words to what they are feeling, Harbor Kids also offers traditional talk therapy. Our counselors carefully integrate evidence-based psychotherapy techniques into a fundamentally biblical approach, helping young people build coping skills, work through hard experiences, and grow in resilience, identity, and hope. As with all of our counseling, we adapt our approach to each child's age, personality, and needs, and we partner with parents every step of the way.
